Ever just wished you could get in a quick round of Pac-Man in between spreadsheets? Yearned to rock a little Galaga before you finished that last report? Well good news for you! Numskull Designs has just announced a new addition to their Quarter Arcade line of collectible and playable miniature arcade cabinets.
Numskull Designs is all about officially licensed merch, and their Quarter Arcade lineup is no exception. Pac-Man released earlier this year and Galaga comes out in September, both licensed direct from Bandai-Namco. The cabinets are 1/4th scale exact replicas of the original cabinets from the 80’s, and exact is not an exaggeration. These cabinets have the original artwork, control layout, and they are even using the original ROM’s, albeit on bespoke emulators. The cabinets are fully playable and Numskull says they are meant to be played, arming them with functional reverse air vents for cooling and rechargeable internal batteries for portability. They also have an attract mode, designed to emulate the patterns cabinets used in arcades in the 80’s to get players attention, and since these are equipped with backlit LEDs throughout, they will get plenty of attention at your desk.
The Quarter Arcade cabinets are being marketed as collectibles, and considering the quality and care shown in their design that’s an accurate description. Numskull is only making 10,000 of each one and the price point is $149.99 a piece, so they are right in line with many statues or replicas that exist today. Pac-Man is available now through Amazon, Gamestop, and Numskull Design’s direct website. Galaga releases in September and is pre-orderable through Numskull’s website. They have also announced some future releases, Ms Pac-Man and Galaxian are coming in November of 2019, Track and Field is coming March 2020, Dig Dug is coming May of 2020, and Space Invaders is coming in July of 2020. With all these on the horizon, arcade lovers can line up their own miniature boardwalk by next year.
